A Colorado River Rafting trip is exciting. With the help of a good excursion company such as americanadventure.com, it should be very enjoyable. You just have to make sure that you have the right gear to keep you warm and comfortable. The rafting expedition company should give you a list, but it does not hurt to be proactive.
Here are some things you should have in your duffel bag to help you.
Hat
It may not be the first thing to pop into your mind, but having a wide-brimmed hat along is very important The sun will be beating down on your head for hours on end, and you will not have any shade. It also provides additional protection from sunburn for your face and shoulders. You should of course have a bottle of sun block. Make sure the hat you bring has a chinstrap to keep the wind from blowing it right off.
Gloves
You will need three kinds of gloves. Woolen gloves will keep your hands warm. You can wear a pair of cycling gloves over them to protect your hands from rope burns when you help out, as well as from the sun. A third pair of gloves can be any material as long as it keeps your hands warm at night. Put on a layer of hand cream to combat dryness before putting on your gloves and you are good.
Socks
Expect to get drenched frequently, and the water is always cold. Thick socks are important to keep your feet warm. To keep it dry, however, neoprene is the best material for your foot cover. Have at least two pairs so you have a spare one when the first one gets wet. It will give you a chance to dry it.
As a final note, do not bring hiking shoes. They are bulky and you will not use them at all while on your rafting trip. The best footwear you can bring is waterproof trail shoes while on the raft and hardy sandals for at night.
