If your HVAC system is broken or your air-conditioner’s drain pump isn’t working properly, it might take some time before the technicians come to save the day. If that happens, though, there’s no need to fret. There are simple ways you can keep yourself cool while you’re waiting for the repair experts.

Shower

A lot of people who have been living with air-conditioning for so long tend to forget the basic remedies to staving off heat from their bodies. One particular remedy is to get under your showerhead and let the cool water bring your body temperature down to a comfortable level.

You can even help yourself cool off further by using soaps that have ingredients like peppermint. The mint in the soap will cool your skin further, so you won’t feel as warm as before.

Hydrate

When you feel hot, the easiest way to remedy that is to take in something that can cool off your internal organs. Drinking lots of cold water will lower your body temperature effectively. So, even if it’s hot outside, as soon as your body temperature drops, you’ll feel more comfortable.

Eat cold treats

You can also add some cold treats like ice cream, popsicles, or slushies to lower your body temperature. They’re just as effective as cold water. Make sure your fridge is packed with cold treats on hot days.

Place a damp towel on your forehead

If you don’t have any ice cream in the fridge, you can always use the method your grandparents used when your parents were sick with fever. Soak a clean hand towel in cold water. After wringing it, place it on your forehead.

Doing this can lower your body temperature. You can put in some ice cubes in the hand towel to let it stay cool longer. If you have a cold comfort pack in your freezer, you can use that, too.

Use an electric fan

You can also use an electric fan to cool down. The air coming from the fan isn’t actually cold, but if you place the fan near a window where there’s a cool breeze, you’ll be able to lower your body temperature effectively.

You can even do something with your fan to keep you cool just like an air-conditioner does. Find an empty bottle of soda and cut off the top part. What should be left is the middle and bottom part of the bottle. After that, poke some holes in the upper part of the bottle. Make sure that there are holes where you can insert malleable wires. Use those wires and tie them onto the back of the electric fan.

Once the bottle is securely attached to the back of your electric fan, load it with ice cubes, but stop when they’re slightly below the holes you made. Once that’s done, turn on your electric fan. When the ice cubes start to evaporate, the cold air coming them will pass through the electric fan and cool you off like an air-conditioner.

See, even if your air-conditioning system is on the fritz, there are several ways to keep cool. All you need is a little bit of imagination and a can-do attitude, and you’ll be able to beat even the most uncomfortable heat.
