How to Make the Most of a Small Bedroom

The common perception toward small living spaces is that they are cramped and uncomfortable. However, this need not always be the case.

As rent prices continue to rise in burgeoning urban areas such as Salt Lake City, it may be best to opt for a smaller place to live in order to save on expenses. Do not worry, though, for there are plenty of ways to maximize space and comfort in a small bedroom. Here are some of them:

1. Invest in the best mattress.

You won’t be feeling so cramped and uncomfortable once you sink into the warmth and softness of a great mattress. Simply head to the nearest mattress store in Salt Lake City and choose the one you would love to come home to every day.

With a comfortable mattress, your bedroom will become your favorite place to be, regardless of how small it is. Do not be too turned off if your first choice is a bit pricey, as a comfortable place to sleep is the main essence of a bedroom anyway.

2. Store things under your bed.

Some beds come with drawers built into the bottom that you can use to store a wide variety of items. This is a great option if you have a large number of clothes or things to store, or if you simply love to keep organized. This is a great way of obtaining additional storage space without sacrificing any floor space.

3. Place your things creatively and efficiently.

Having a small space does not mean that you can’t fit in all your furniture and living necessities. It’s just a matter of where you place them. For example, you could get a corner desk, which can function as both a work table and a nightstand. Placing your bed in a corner works similar wonders.

You can also be strategic with where you place your tables to ensure that you don’t have any more tables than you need; place them right beside your bed instead. Go the extra mile as well by organizing how you organize your things on your tables and in drawers, in order to eliminate having so many loose items scattered around.

4. Get a full-length mirror.

Mirrors are a great way to save on lighting fixtures and lamps. As they are able to reflect light, they can disperse light from a single source and illuminate an entire room. This reduces the need for standing or desk lamps that take up precious space. A full-length mirror is enough to light up a small bedroom, and it serves the added benefit of letting you check your entire, full-body outfit ensemble before you go out.

5. Maximize shelf and wall space.

Shelves are the cheat codes of storage; mount them on walls, and you get lots of additional places to keep and display your things without sacrificing floor space. Moreover, you could stack shelves one on top of another — similar to a bookcase — from floor to ceiling.

This instantly turns an entire part of a wall into storage space and maximizing the function of a wall. This also need not be achieved only through shelves. You can mount many things onto your bedroom walls, such as photos, art, and even lights, in order to reduce the number of items on your desk, freeing up even more storage space.

Even the smallest space can become your own slice of paradise. With proper organizing and design, you are sure to be able to call any place you live in — whether big or small — home.
