The value of gold is unmistakable. It is one of the most precious metals on the planet. And since one of its characteristics is that it is chemically inert, it can preserve its look as it is not subject to corrosion or oxidation. This will depend on the purity, though, so if something looks old or musty, it may not be fake; there is just another metal mixed in there. But taken by itself, its shiny and metallic yellow hue would catch one’s eye. That is why those who can afford it would flaunt it. If you want to take it to the next level, you can even have your teeth fitted with braces made with gold brackets that show off the precious metal every time you smile.
But not all people are enamored with gold. Many would rather spend money on essential stuff like food and utilities instead of what some perceive as beautiful pieces of jewelry. And who can blame them? Gold is inherently expensive, and you would not reap the benefits right away if you decide to invest in it. Over the years, there have also been many collectible items that use gold coloring to signify the rarity or how special an item is. It may not be the real thing, but you can be confident enough to show off.
Video Games
Nintendo’s long-running adventure game franchise The Legend of Zelda has long been associated with gold. When they released the first game in the franchise in North America, it came in a gold cartridge. If you were a kid who grew up in the ’80s, you would probably freak out at the sight of it. At the time, Nintendo was at the top of the video game console race, and they were starting to establish the beginning of their franchises. They released the second game in the Zelda franchise a year later in 1987, once again in a gold cart. They would never do this again until 1998 when they released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. This time, you could only get the gold cart via pre-order. These gold cartridge releases gave the Zelda franchise some added prestige and identity.
Smartphone Color Schemes
Are you tired of the smartphone form factor of today? What most people have now is a rectangular device that is almost all screen. If you are a phone manufacturer, how do you garner attention? By offering unique color choices, of course. Many are tired of the blacks and silvers, as they are perceptibly safe choices. Some phones now have gold accents on the body. This can be a great way to position something that is top of the class.
Graphics Cards
Graphics cards give computers the increased ability to render polygonal graphics used by modern games. There are a lot of manufacturers that offer different designs for the cards’ shrouds, and these come in all manners of shapes and sizes. Nvidia, meanwhile, is also selling its reference design cards they dubbed Founders Edition. These feature a silver shroud and two fans for the cooling system. The highest-end card that they offer is called the Titan. It uses the same shroud design as the lower-tiered cards, but for the past two generations, Nvidia gave it a gold hue to further distinguish it from the pack.
While all the items mentioned do not have real gold, they at least look the part and still relevant today because of them being collectibles. This just goes to show that some items do not have to be made out of precious metal to be valuable. If you have any of these items, hold on to them because their prices could skyrocket in the coming years.
