Even if you are not a car expert, there are a few things you can do in a few minutes to keep your car in great shape.
Most people think they don’t have to do anything to maintain their cars, until something comes up and they are shocked by the hefty repair bill at the auto repair shop.
By setting aside a short period every few months, you can easily avoid expensive repair costs and keep your car in top working condition for several years.
1. Check your oil.
Use your car’s dipstick or electronic gauge to check the oil. You should be able to easily know the difference between clean oil and murky oil that needs to be replaced. Experts recommend you need to change oil every 3,000 miles, but that figure can vary. Check your car’s manual to make sure.
2. Get your tired balanced.
Getting your tires replaced can be one of the most expensive repairs you have to pay for, so it pays to have them rotated and checked for proper alignment regularly. If you are having trouble keeping your tires straight, it is high time for you to have them aligned properly.
3. Check the battery.
Nobody likes dealing with a dead battery. Fortunately, keeping a battery in shape is easier than you think. Simply take out the battery from the terminal and use a battery cleaning solution to clean the posts. Rinse with water, wipe dry, and put it back.
4. Replace the spark plugs.
This doesn’t sound as complicated as it sounds. Use a spark plug socket and a ratchet to remove the first spark plug and install a new one by hand. Do not remove all spark plugs at the same time, since they are installed in a certain order which you need to maintain.
Above all else, schedule regular inspections at your favorite Arvada auto repair shop so that you can get your car checked by a professional mechanic. Doing so will help you anticipate future problems and prevent them from happening.
